There were two angles that intrigued me, one of which was the idea of a hydra. The thinking being that hydras do seem to at least be in the same species as dragons in terms of mythological lizards, and it fit in to the narrative of this character being an outcast.

  

The other alternate idea I had along the lines of this being a deformed creature was that he was corrupted by an outside influence. Like this dragon was infected by something deadly and in fear of it spreading he was left to die, which was an idea that I thought allowed for some creative imagery. I moved away from this idea though due to its lack of correlation with the character being a water-based dragon.  

   

  

The final concept ultimately came with the finalizing of his backstory and naming him Euron, in that this was a dragon born somewhat gelatinous and with no hind legs. His wings wouldn’t support his weight when he tried to fly and thusly this led to his depression and eventual suicide attempt.

However when he entered the water he found he could swim faster than other dragons could fly, and submerged it was like he was soaring through the sky. Eventually this led to a change in what he now considered to be deformed and that he was more beautiful then any other dragon on land. Thusly this resulted in his self-exile away from those he now considered ugly.
